WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN A SOMATIC COACHING SESSION?

My coaching approach is informed by trauma, centered on the body, and focused on working with the nervous system.

Sessions integrate a blend of Somatic Experiencing®, motivational interviewing, and coaching theory to provide comprehensive support. SE employs awareness of the body and the body’s “voice” to help people “renegotiate” rather than relive or re-enact traumatic experiences in their efforts to heal.

THE STRUCTURE OF EACH SESSION

In sessions, I guide individuals through somatic, emotional, and spiritual exploration, aiming to empower and resource them along the way.

Tailoring each session to the client's unique needs and interests, I may incorporate elements such as ritual, touch work, sound, breath, and gentle movement.

The structure of our sessions varies widely based on the client's goals and requirements. Typically, clients come with a specific focus or intention for their somatic work, which guides our exploration. As we delve into content, we also remain mindful of the nervous system, tracking bodily sensations, images, emotions, movement, and thoughts.

SOMATIC PROCESSING

In somatic processing, we may revisit past traumatic events by slowing down the experience or narrative, enabling your body to process events in the present moment.

Whatever arises during the session is welcomed and addressed, ensuring that we remain within the client’s window of tolerance to foster growth and build capacity, while also creating space for integration.

THERAPEUTIC TOUCH WORK

My training includes Somatic Experiencing® therapeutic touch work, which I may incorporate into sessions if the participant expresses interest. However, the decision to use therapeutic touch is entirely optional, and we will collaboratively discuss its appropriateness for facilitating your exploration during the session.

It's essential to note that the effectiveness of the session is not solely dependent on the use of touch; somatic work alone can be equally effective. Additionally, therapeutic touch is conducted with utmost respect, with the intention of supporting awareness rather than manipulating tissue. It is non-sexual and employed only when deemed necessary for your support and growth.
